Government May Gain Control Over Pataudi Family's Rs 15,000 Crore Property
The government may take control of the ancestral property of the Pataudi family worth Rs 15,000 crore. The High Court has lifted the stay on the property which is now considered ‘enemy property’ because the Nawab’s eldest daughter moved to Pakistan. Descendants of the Nawab family including Saif Ali Khan and Sharmila Tagore are claiming ownership of this property. The government will now survey the property and could take possession of it through legal proceedings. Earlier, in 2015, the government had declared this property as government-owned. The Nawab family’s Rs 15,000 crore worth of property including assets in Bhopal might now be under the government’s control. The Madhya Pradesh High Court (Jabalpur) has lifted the stay that had been imposed on this property since 2015. This case is related to the ‘Enemy Property Act’. Justice Vivek Agrawal’s single bench gave the Nawab family 30 days to present their case before the appellate authority. The deadline has now passed and the family has not made any claims yet.
