Playback singer Abhijeet Bhattacharya, who is renowned for lending voice to Bollywood superstars recently sparked controversy with his remarks on Mahatma Gandhi. The singer called the Indian freedom fighter the “Father of Pakistan” during a podcast discussion. While reflecting on legendary music composer R.D. Burman, Bhattacharya drew comparisons between Burman and Gandhi.

Speaking to journalist Shubhankar Mishra, Abhijeet Bhattacharya said, “Pancham Da was bigger than Mahatma Gandhi. Like Mahatma Gandhi was the father of the nation, Pancham Da was the father of the nation in the world of music.”

The singer further elaborated his views by saying, “Mahatma Gandhi was not the father of the nation of India; he was Pakistan’s Father of India. India was always there, but Pakistan was created. By mistake, Mahatma Gandhi was called the Father of Our Nation.”
