Sivaganga court sentences man to life for murdering wife

The Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court has commuted the death sentence awarded by the Second Additional District and Sessions Court, Tirunelveli, to four persons to life term. They were convicted for murdering three Scheduled Caste men in Tenkasi district in 2014.

In 2014, the Second Additional District and Sessions Court awarded death sentences to Ponnumani, Gurusamy, Muthukrishnan and Kaliraj and imposed a fine on them. It was referred to the High Court. The trial court also awarded life sentence to seven others.

According to the prosecution, Kaliraj, Venugopal and Murugan, all belonging to the Scheduled Caste, had previous enmity with members of an intermediate caste. An armed gang attacked and murdered the three persons at Udappankulam in Tenkasi district in 2014.
