US embassy announces new rules to streamline H-1B visa appointment process

In a major relief for Indians planning to visit the US, new regulations will come into effect for non-immigrant visa applicants starting January 1, 2025. The US embassy announced these changes on December 18, aiming to simplify the visa application process and reduce wait times, ensuring everyone has a fair opportunity to schedule a visa interview.

The move is expected to benefit many Indian tech professionals, especially as the Biden administration has eased H-1B visa rules, making it simpler for US companies to hire skilled foreign workers and easing transitions from F-1 student visas to H-1B visas.

Under the new guidelines, visa applicants can now reschedule their appointments once without any additional charges. However, if they miss their appointment or need to reschedule a second time, they will be required to pay the application fee again.
